Seminar on the protection of minors' personal data on the Internet: Challenges and issues

As part of its awareness-raising initiatives aimed at establishing a culture of privacy and personal data protection in Morocco, the CNDP (National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection) organized a conference on the protection of minors' personal data on the Internet on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, in Rabat, in collaboration with the Swiss Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF).

The conference was attended by a host of international experts, national authorities, academics and professionals in the field of cybercrime and childhood, including: the Council of Europe, EUROPOL, representatives of public authorities and the Moroccan Ministry of Family, Solidarity, Equality and Social Development.

Discussions focused on the major challenges facing the authorities, including the need to protect minors online through innovative, coordinated responses.

The conference highlighted cybercrimes targeting minors, the scale and scope of this phenomenon in Morocco, and the role that personal data protection can play in guarding against the resulting dangers.

The meeting was also an opportunity to present the Swiss experience in this field, particularly in terms of investigative techniques and the role of civil society in raising public awareness.
