Rabat, 08/03/2021 (MAP) – A partnership agreement aimed mainly at combating digital violence was signed between the CNDP (Commission Nationale de contrôle de la protection des Données à caractère Personnel) and ATEC (Association Tahadi pour l'Égalité et la Citoyenneté), in Rabat on Monday.
Signed by the President of the CNDP, Mr. Omar Seghrouchni, and the Commission member, Mrs. Souâd El Kohen, on the one hand, and the Director of ATEC, Mrs. Bouchra Abdou, on the other, this agreement covers, in particular, the adhesion of ATEC to the CNDP's "Data Tika" program, designed to protect the citizen within the digital ecosystem and to reinforce the capacities of the association in terms of combating digital violence, particularly against women.
In a statement to M24 (MAP's news channel), Mr. Seghrouchni emphasized that on the occasion of International Women's Rights Day (March 8): "we signed the first Data-Tika program with a civil society association", expressing the wish to work in a steady way to fight violence against women within the digital ecosystem.
Mr. Seghrouchni recalled that the CNDP works on issues linked to personal data protection and citizen protection in the digital ecosystem, noting that this ecosystem is constantly evolving and can bring new and sometimes unexpected usages. "Some of these usages may be incompatible with the values that our society wishes to promote".
For this reason, signing up to a Data Tika program is an important step forward because, in addition to public and private institutions and companies, this program is aimed at civil society stakeholders, stressing that civil society associations are important stakeholders who work in the field and are confronted with the day-to-day problems of citizens.
“Although the signature itself is an important step, the most important thing is the operational and concrete work plan that will be launched and deployed”, he insisted, explaining that these kinds of issues must be dealt with in the field.
In a similar statement, Mrs. El Kohen noted that the convention aims to assist and train associations so that they can promote personal data protection throughout the Moroccan ecosystem, stressing that personal data circulates everywhere, mainly in civil society.
"Thus, to protect citizens, it's important to join activist initiatives like ATEC's, which enables us to fight against a phenomenon that's very crucial for all of us, and that's women's safety through the securing of social networks", she argued.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Abdou emphasized the importance of this partnership, explaining that the association is active in the field of digital violence and receives women victims of this phenomenon on a daily basis, as well as youths and minors.
