The first edition of the "Koun3labal" award, a success according to the achieved results

Casablanca - Friday, January 27th, 2017 - As part of their cooperation to promote the privacy and personal data protection, the CNDP (Commission Nationale de contrôle de la protection des Données à caractère Personnel) and GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), are organizing the award ceremony for the first edition of the National Privacy and Personal Data Protection Prize "Koun3labal", on the sidelines of the Data Protection Day. This event will be held on Friday, January 27th, 2017 at 3:00 pm, at the Grand Mogador Hotel in Casablanca.

The prize, organized in conjunction with the Data Protection Day, rewards the best works created by young Moroccan youtubers to promote a culture of privacy and personal data protection.

Chaired by CNDP member Omar Seghrouchni, the jury for this first edition included three other members from both the digital and youth sectors. They included: Yassine Jarram, an emblematic figure on the Moroccan podcast scene, Oussama Benjelloun, a TV host specializing in youth and digital programming, and Mehdi Annassi, a digital artist.

Thus, two prizes worth 30,000.00 (thirty thousand) dirhams each were awarded at the ceremony:

  • The Jury Prize for the best personal data protection awareness video;
  • The Audience Prize for the video with the highest number of "likes".
  • Three other "jury's favorite" prizes were also awarded.

The event brought together a wide audience, including youtubers, professional federations, companies, legal representatives, academics and civil society...

This initiative reflects the CNDP's desire to innovate in terms of raising awareness of the issue of privacy and personal data protection. Indeed, the CNDP considers this subject to be a national cause that deserves everyone's contribution in order to establish this new culture in Morocco.

The first edition of the "Koun3labal" Award proved a success in terms of numbers. More than 30 videos entered the competition, totalising over 150,000 views on the Internet. In other words, a wide audience was reached.

The CNDP intends to repeat this experience and organize other awards in the future, convinced that raising public awareness is a major asset in protecting privacy and personal data at a time of new technological challenges.
